How to Make a Delicious Protein Shake

1

No matter what brand of whey protein you like, you can make a great tasting protein shake with 4 ingredients and 1 simple tool.  First the ingredients.  I load about 1.5 cups of crushed ice, 1.5 full scoops of vanilla ice cream, 1 scoop of protein powder, and 3 cups of milk and blend them together to create a delicious, thick protein shake.  Below are the details to this protein shake recipe.

Read this Bella Cucina Blender review to find out why it is so highly recommended (price, style, convenience).  This is the personal blender I use and it works perfectly.  You can wash it easy and to use it you just throw in the ingredients, lock in the blender and hold it down for about 15 seconds until all the whey protein is blended and all the ice broken down.

Obviously, you can use many different flavors of ice cream but vanilla will work the best for most people as it’s got a good, neutral taste.  I personally use low fat vanilla ice cream with hormone free skim milk and ON double rich chocolate protein.

The beauty of these 5 elements along with the blender is you can easily create great tasting protein shakes with virtually no mess (just rinse when done) and no left overs (you make just enough to drink after a workout).  So no matter how many whey protein drinks you have a day, you save time on putting everything together.

You’ll also save money.  These ingredients are cheap.  Ice is basically free but adds great filler and texture to the shake.  Milk is only $2.99 to $3.99 per gallon.  Ice cream is about $3.99 to $4.99 per half gallon but you’ll use very little for each whey shake.  Last, protein powder is the most expensive (go here for cheap protein) but if you have a 5 lb. cannister or a 10 lb. bag, the price per scoop is extremely cheap, probably 30 or 40 cents per scoop.

One thing I like to do with my protein shakes (I should note that I’m cutting weight) is to keep the sugar at a minimum and up the fat to feel full. I tend to add a little bit of frozen fruit and coconut oil (or even almond butter sometimes).

That way my shake doesn’t burn off so quick where you get that “empty” stomach feeling … plus it gets really thick like a real milk shake. Kinda sucks when you make a shake and it feels like watery skim milk. haha
